Securing your devices: phone, computer, Wi-Fi and backups

Most security problems are very concrete: the phone, the computer, the Wi-Fi. Here you secure your devices step by step.

Where to start

Most security problems are very concrete: the phone, the computer, the Wi-Fi. The good news is that a secure device is mostly a matter of a few basic settings, not expensive special software.

If you do not know where to begin, work in this order: secure the device you use most first – usually the phone. Then the computer, then the Wi-Fi and router that every device goes online through. And last, the thing that saves you when something goes wrong anyway: an automatic backup.

Protection and planning ahead

Device security is not a one-time project. Turn on automatic updates everywhere, and once a month check briefly that backups are running and that no unfamiliar devices are signed in to your accounts. The short version is in the 15-minute security check .
